The Meaning of Langar Expressed at El Nido

Yasmine G. • October 24, 2025

Langar is a free, inclusive, community meal within the Sikh faith tradition

Growing up with my Sikh father, who came from India, I learned early on the meaning of langar, the community kitchen where anyone, regardless of background, can share a free meal. I remember standing beside him at our gurdwara, watching people cook, serve, and eat together as equals. I learned that langar wasn’t just about food, but it was about dignity, compassion, and unity. Inspired by those lessons, I now help deliver meals across different communities, hoping to spread that same spirit of service and connection. - Yasmine G.
