Annual Orientation - 40th Anniversary
Volunteer Congregations from Across the County Say "Yes!" to Providing Shelter

On October 4th, All Souls Episcopal Church graciously hosted ISN's annual orientation for the Rotational Shelter Program. This event brings together volunteers from congregations across the county as well as case managers and ISN staff. At the orientation, Manolo Guillen, the Rotational Shelter Program Manager, shared with volunteers a message he has heard from shelter guests. Manolo said guests can feel the difference volunteers make. Guests say, “You want to be here. You want to help. You genuinely care.“
Volunteers brought a wealth of knowledge gleaned from years of leading the program in their congregation, as well as insightful questions about how we best serve our guests.
The orientation included guest speakers such as former Executive Director Rosemary Johnston, who spoke on ISN's 40th anniversary. Jesenia Sanchez, a Case Manager Supervisor from Family Health Centers of San Diego, also spoke about the intake and screening process. Finally, Ginger Jacobs from Jacobs & Schlesinger LLP shared ideas for ways to keep guests and volunteers safe.
Thanks to the volunteers, the orientation was a success. ISN would also like to thank sponsors of the event, Starbucks Coffee, Trader Joe's, and Mendocino Farms.
