Congregations Gear Up
The Rotational Shelter Program succeeds because of a simple truth: the volunteers. It is the faithfulness, dedication, and creativity of the congregational volunteers who make the life-affirming program come alive year after year. The Rotational Shelter Program offers shelter and supportive services that lead to stability and a fresh start for the shelter guests.
The other day I was speaking with a volunteer who served as an overnight host for the Rotational Shelter Program. A church near his home hosts people every year, and a close friend of his invited him to help serve. He wasn’t a member of the congregation, but he appreciated what the church members were doing, and he wanted to be a part of the good work. He told me that he particularly appreciated the services that guests received that helped them obtain stable housing and a steady income. He decided to join that congregational effort and serve as an overnight host for the shelter guests!
This year will be ISN’s 41st anniversary of partnering with congregations to serve the unhoused. I love the stories from congregations that support this program. Whether they are opening their fellowship halls, contributing meals, leading a workshop, financially supporting case management, recruiting new volunteers, or contributing in some other way, it is always inspiring.
