Supporting Our Network

Empathy, Understanding, and Mutuality are Needed Now More than Ever

Forty years ago, ISN’s Rotational Shelter Program was brought to life by the creative collaboration of courageous faith communities. Over the decades, thousands of vulnerable San Diegans have been uplifted and encouraged by faith communities who have banded together in service. Congregations with different traditions and rituals have come together around the shared values of compassion, dignity, and hospitality.

The Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) has been a dedicated, generous participant in the Clairemont Branch of the Rotational Shelter Program. Each year, the members of the ICSD have worked side by side with their neighboring congregations to serve the unhoused and have supported the El Nido program as well. The violence of May 18 directed at a vital and loving faith home for many San Diegans is not only shocking but heartbreaking.

We extend our prayers and deepest concern to Imam Taha Hassane (a former ISN Board Member), the members and staff of the Islamic Center of San Diego, and to the faculty, staff, and students of the Bright Horizon Academy.

For years, the network of communities in the Rotational Shelter Program have supported one another and built bridges of understanding and compassion across faith traditions. Your participation in the Rotational Shelter Program and the El Nido Program has fostered a life-affirming collaboration for our unhoused friends and for our fellow faith communities.

We grieve with the families affected by this tragedy and with a community rocked by violence. Together, we remain committed to the work of healing, solidarity, and caring for our most vulnerable neighbors — united not by fear, but by our shared humanity.
