Congregations and volunteers that participate in the Interfaith Shelter Network's two programs describe the experience as positive and enriching. The Rotational Shelter Program is a unique collaborative program which unites congregations, social service agencies, and local governments throughout the San Diego region to provide emergency shelter for homeless individuals and families at local congregations, which each agree to shelter 12 pre-screened and monitored homeless people for two-four weeks. The congregations provide meals and overnight supervision. There are seven branches of the Rotational Shelter Program: North County Coastal, North County Inland, East County, South Bay, San Diego Inland, Clairemont and San Diego Beaches. How long each branch remains open depends on how many congregations in that area agree to provide nighttime shelter for two weeks. Support congregations within each branch help out at the host sites by assisting with meals, overnight shelter, or provision of toiletries and other supplies.
